Types of Heated Flooring
Hydronic
This form of heating uses piping underneath your floors and runs liquid at various temperatures through your home to regulate to the desired temperature.
Typically the most selected form of heated flooring as it is the most efficient and cost-effective. Easy to set up and maintain with great longevity. Very fitting and optimal for homes with allergies. Additionally, with heated tile flooring, a central furnace or other sources may no longer be required. No central furnace means fewer air particles being blown around your home.
Electrical
This form uses heating wire underneath your floors that heat to differentiating temperatures as desired.
Easy to install but may require more power to run. Ideal and cost effective to install in smaller rooms or sections of the house unless already set up for electrical heated flooring.
Flooring that Works with Radiant Heating
Both hydronic and electrical work really well with tile flooring. Ceramic helps act as a heat sink by storing more thermal energy. Ultimately allows you to heat your home efficiently. Other floorings like linoleum, vinyl and carpet are acceptable as well but with the stipulation that any coverings that insulate also affect the efficiency.
Longevity
Hydronic systems typically last anywhere from 35-50 years in comparison to HVAC systems that have 15 to 25 year life span. 50 years is a long time to not have to worry about issues.
